Happy Father’s Day To All The Single Dads

Today is a day I’d rather ignore. It’s a day when I’m reminded of the vast differences between the awesome dads (yay for you) and the jackasses who abandon their children when their offspring grow inconvenient. It’s not my favorite day of the year. That’s just my honest take on Father’s Day.

That said, I’m all about keeping things moving forward. Being a sourpuss never did anyone any good, right? Instead of spending today manifesting the venom I have for those long gone donors, I’d much rather celebrate the amazing fathers who are out there quietly caring for their children. So let’s focus on the daddy superstars!

To all the single dads (and also every good dad, single or otherwise) happy Father’s Day!

To all the men who found themselves tasked with the seemingly impossible challenge of caring for children alone, and rose to meet that challenge, I celebrate you. To all the men who were faced with a challenge designed for two, and did not turn coward, I celebrate you.

To all the men who push aside the exhaustion to give a little one their time and love, I celebrate you. To all the men who shatter the dated stereotypes, and have the confidence to dress up for tea parties, build forts, and read bedtime stories, I celebrate you.

You fellas are the example that all the men should aspire toward. You men show us what integrity looks like. The men who honored their responsibility, honored their commitment, and became better human beings for it, I celebrate you.

To all the men who are raising little boys and little girls, know that one day those children will honor you with as much love as you have poured into them all these years.

If you are lucky enough to have one of these superstars in your life, tell him how much he means to you, tell him how much he is appreciated, tell him how special he is; and get that man a cold beer and a few hours to watch the game!

Thank you for teaching us all what REAL men look like.
